Bill Amyx “B.A.” 86, of Columbus, KS died 12:35 a.m. Saturday August 29, 2026 at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Bill was born March 21, 1940 in Nederland, TX the son of Edwin Harvey and Ethel Irene (Whiteacre) Amyx. Bill has been apart of the Columbus community for the last 46 years. Bill was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in the 101st Airborne.
On April 4, 1960 Bill married Kay Campbell in Nevada, MO; she preceded him in death on April 29, 2025. Bill along with his wife owned and operated Calibrated Forms in Columbus, KS and founded Powrachute in January of 1999 in Columbus, KS. Bill was of the Christian Faith; he loved life, the outdoors, the Longhorn Cattle he raised with his son in law Tracy and most of all his family and especially his grandkids.
Survivors include his children Ron W. Amyx and wife Elizabeth of Columbus, KS, Kim Brown and husband Tracy of Columbus, KS and Tammy Perry and companion Chis Hood of Tulsa, OK; sister in law Billie Amyx of Texas, brother in law Bobby Gambrell of Texas; brother James Amyx and wife Sherry of Texas; grandchildren Matthew Rothwell Amyx and companion Anna Schumack, Justin Amyx and wife Michelle, Taylor Evans and husband Alex, Laney Brown and Kylee Perry; great-grandchildren Jasper Amyx, Sebastian Rothwell, Amelia Rothwell, Amyx Evans, Blake Evans, Nash Evans; lifelong friends Mark and Donna Winter and C.W. Betz.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, parents and siblings Eddie Amyx and Carolyn Gambrell.
Memorial Services will be 2:00 pm Thursday September 3, 2026 at the First Christian Church in Columbus, KS with Pastor Tom Fouts officiating. Burial will be at a later private date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Honor Flight of SE Kansas. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 611 S.
