PITTSBURG, Kan. — After 30 years of making an impact on the environment and the community, the SEK Recycling Team and Crawford County Commissioner Jeremy Johnson this week recognized James Triplett for his hard work with a plaque and naming the recycling center after him. On Earth Day in 1990, the Pittsburg State University Biology Department, led by Triplett, and the City of Pittsburg met to discuss the need for recycling in the area in order to save space in landfills. Soon after the meeting, the Citizens for Crawford County, a volunteer group, was formed, and developed a partnership with Dillons to use the grocery store’s parking lot to collect recyclables the first Saturday of the month.
