PITTSBURG, Kan. — In a ceremony that traditionally honors university students as they begin their nursing journey, Friday’s Pittsburg State University School of Nursing Professional Recognition Ceremony recognized a longtime faculty member whose career touched many lives. The Mo-Kan Nurse Honor Guard, who recognizes nurses who have died at memorials and funerals, appeared at the ceremony to honor Dr. Carolyn Brooker, who died on Nov. 14, 2020, at the age of 87. As one of the founding faculty members of the PSU School of Nursing, Brooker served as a member of the nursing school advisory board, establishing a couple of scholarships in her own name as well as her husband’s, George Brooker.
