Miners Hall celebrates 10 years

The trustees of the Miners Hall Museum in Franklin toasted with the members of the Foundation on the tenth anniversary of the opening of the museum in 2012. FRANKLIN, Kan. — “In early 1911 an idea began forming, to preserve and share the rich history of coal mining in Southeast Kansas,” Phyllis Bitner, program chairperson, told members of the Miners Hall Museum Foundation gathered in the Franklin Community Park on Sunday. Exactly 10 years ago Sunday, on May 1, 2012, the fruits of their labors were realized when the museum opened. On Sunday evening, the foundation celebrated its tenth anniversary with a gala birthday party, featuring a spaghetti and chicken dinner, champagne and birthday cake.
