PITTSBURG, Kan. — Recruiting duty is arguably one of the toughest jobs in the military. In order to maintain a competent and professional force, recruiters are the ones who are tasked with making that first cut, separating those who have the potential to make good soldiers from the ones who don’t. It’s a rough job, and recruiters are often universally jeered by those who make the cut as soldiers will complain they should’ve joined the Salvation Army instead of the U.S. Army, or — and I’ve been guilty of this one — joined the Peace Corps, not the Marine Corps.
