Helping businesses help Pittsburg

PITTSBURG, Kan. — What, exactly, is the City of Pittsburg’s Economic Development Advisory Committee? Better known as the EDAC, its enabling ordinance says the purpose of the committee is “to expand the city’s economic base.” According to Blake Benson, president of the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce and economic development director for the city, the committee is made up of seven members that are appointed by the city commission for three-year, staggered terms and cannot serve more than two terms. There is no set professional experience criteria to be a member, although some business expertise is helpful.
