PITTSBURG, Kan. — Since February is National Spay and Neuter Awareness month, Pawprints on the Heartland, a local organization that performs low-cost spay and neuter services, will be launching new programs in February: Fix by 5 and Prevent a Litter (PAL). In 2022, Pawprints on the Heartland performed over 2,000 spay/neuter surgeries, bringing the total to over 90,000 surgeries since the year 2000 when the organization first started. Pawprints’ new Fix by 5 program will be focused on educating and encouraging pet owners to spay their animals by the time they are five months old, which is when cats and dogs first go into heat and are ready to breed.
