PITTSBURG, Kan. — On June 17, former teacher Jessica Lake filed a lawsuit against USD 250 Pittsburg Community Schools alleging that she was discriminated against and improperly terminated from her position with the district in May of 2021. According to the complaint filed, Lake was originally hired for USD 250 as a kindergarten teacher at Meadowlark Elementary School in August of 2020, but after the principal of Meadowlark learned Lake was pregnant, she was reassigned to teach 5th grade at Westside Elementary School two days before her contracted start date. Lake informed the Westside principal, Kelsey Boulware, that she was pregnant and her due date was Dec. 18, 2020.
