CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. — An estimated 424 people may lose their lives in a preventable traffic crash over the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to analysis from the National Safety Council. Known as one of the most dangerous holidays to be on the road, Labor Day weekend is typically considered the last chance for citizens to get out and enjoy the summer season, leading to road trips to the lake or simply time away from home. However, with increased traffic volumes and time spent in the warm summer sun enjoying refreshments comes the potential for alcohol-impaired driving, leading to a higher risk of crashes and fatalities.
