GIRARD, Kan. — With the beginning of the end of budget season in sight, the Crawford County Commission held its annual budget hearing, which is open to the public. Given the frustration of rising property taxes, the commissioners were waiting to see what the public response would be like. About a dozen Crawford County residents waited in the commission room — a pleasant surprise for Commissioner Tom Moody, who, in his nearly 30 years as a commissioner, has never seen anyone attend a budget hearing.
