PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Area youngsters filled the Ron’s IGA parking lot, Saturday, for the annual celebration that the Rhodes family has dubbed “Kidsfest.” There was a lot to draw kids to the free event: a colorful giant inflatable obstacle course, climbing wall and slide; a bounce house; games like corn hole and a test of skill for those adept at hitting a hole with a small plastic football. The kids could climb into a Pittsburg Fire Department engine, meet a real firefighter and imagine themselves saving lives or they could get their faces, hands or arms painted, perhaps with the Batman logo. But mainly, Kidsfest was about connecting kids, the community and Pitt State athletes.
