CCHM hosts Border Wars for local students

PITTSBURG, Kan. — The Crawford County Historical Museum opened to area students on Friday for the 7th Annual Border Wars, to coincide with Little Balkans Days over Labor Day Weekend. Students from Frontenac, Pittsburg, and Colgan were shown displays of military and medical equipment, learned about blacksmithing and broom making, and even played cricket. Area reenactors will be putting on two battles on Saturday, the first at 10 a.m. and the second at 2:30 p.m. Museum Director Amanda Minton said the first battle will be as close as possible to the actual skirmish fought along Cow Creek in October of 1864.
