PITTSBURG, Kan. — With so many supportive and uplifting aspects of the annual Paint the Town Red and other partnerships between the community and Pittsburg State University, it's hard to imagine that the two ever had a strained relationship. But 20 years ago, the two entities were on shaky ground. When Blake Benson, Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce president, first moved to Pittsburg in 2006, there was a discussion about closing Joplin Street that was ongoing between the university and the city.
