Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago April 26, 1924 In what was considered the most finished rendition of the oratorio ever given in Pittsburg, the choral organization of approximately 250 persons built by Prof. Walter McCray presented “The Messiah” before an audience of 1,700 last night in Carney Hall as the last and greatest number of the 10th annual spring music festival of the Teachers College. This was a climactic triumph for an event now recognized as very important by the national field of music. As a geyser belches water, so did the home of James Lobiel in Gross bubble over with whisky and mash, according to members of the sheriff's force who raided last night.
