The Girard school board approved adding classrooms to Lowell School

100 Years Ago Jan. 19, 1923 Fire, entailing a loss estimated at $4,000, and thought to have originated from a short circuit in the wiring, destroyed the fan house and fan equipment, and burned the cribbing to the bottom of the air shaft at Mine No. 21 of the J. R. Crowe Coal & Mining company, a half mile southeast of Croweburg last night. No employees were at the shaft when the fire was discovered by a farmer living near the mine.
