100 Years Ago Jan. 25, 1923 Steps to transform East 11th Street into a paved boulevard and one of the best drives in the city were taken by the city commission last night when the city engineer was instructed to estimate cost of constructing a tunnel under the Kansas City Southern and Santa Fe tracks just east of Michigan avenue. The plan of the commission is for a street right of way parallel to the Missouri Pacific northeasterly from 11th to 16th or 20th streets. Representative Shideler of the Girard has introduced in the Legislature a companion measure to that introduced in the upper house yesterday by Senator Vincent of Pittsburg, providing safeguards for the lives of coal miners and the employment of mine examiners and fire bosses.
