Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago March 9-11, 1924 Nine persons were arrested; 700 gallons of wine, 200 gallons of whiskey and 500 gallons of mash ready for distillation, were destroyed; and a 75-gallon capacity still was confiscated yesterday at Burgess, Mo., by federal prohibition operatives out of Pittsburg and Barton County, Mo., officer in raids opening in the morning and continuing most of the day. The raids were called the largest in the district’s history. Alexander Howat, deposed president of District 14 of the Mine Workers, was greeted with applause and ovations of most of the delegates to the district convention here this afternoon.
