Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago June 16, 1923 With filing yesterday at the office of the county clerk at Girard of petitions calling for a high type hard-surface highway east and west across Crawford county, assurance was complete that the project will succeed. Beginning at Opolis, the highway will run north along the Kansas-Missouri line to East Fourth street road. From there it will run west through Pittsburg to McCune, and on west to Labette county, a total of 32 1-4 miles.
