Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago July 25, 1923 Appeals for equal citizenship rights for the Indian were made by Chief William Red Fox, Sioux Indian, in lectures yesterday at the Christian church and Rotary club. He declared that the Indian is the original American and therefore should have the right to vote and enjoy the other privileges of citizenship. Red Fox declared that of 27,000 Indians in military service during the World War, 8,047 got overseas and more than 1,000 are still in Flanders fields.
