Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago May 31, 1924 Referendum returns compiled this morning by the district office of the Mine Workers on a special assessment for relief of miners out of work, show that the proposition was carried affirmatively by a vote of about 3 to 1. The question provides for levying an assessment of $1 per week on all men working five days per month or more. It has been estimated, however, that this will be insufficient to care for the district, with most men not working.
