Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago June 4, 1924 O. R. Izan, former Mulberry confectionary store proprietor and alleged bandit charged with holding up Elmer E. Smith near Fort Scott, shooting Smith and stealing his motor car, was sentenced to serve from 17 to 55 years in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty at the start of his trial at Fort Scott yesterday. Sentence was pronounced today by District Court Judge E. C. Gates. This will be the second summer that Abel school, southeast of the city, will be maintained as a practical laboratory for rural one-room school teachers by K. S.T.
