100 Years Ago Feb. 10, 1923 Despite the commutation order by Gov. Jonathan Davis yesterday of Alexander Howat, former president of District 14, Mine Workers, from the Cherokee County jail, Howat is still confined in the jail. Howat’s counsel this morning presented the commutation order in district court at Columbus but Judge F. W. Boss immediately declared Howat could not be released until he paid the cost of the prosecution.
