Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago April 29-May 1, 1923 Pittsburg is to have an airplane landing field in the near future, it was decided at a meeting of the directors of the Chamber of Commerce at the Stilwell yesterday when the secretary of the Chamber, announced a pursuit group of government airplanes will arrive in Pittsburg May 13 and spend the night. Airmen seem to have a preference for Pittsburg as a landing place over Fort Scott and Joplin, where they are now establishing fields. An audience estimated at 3,000 men, women and children crowded the auditorium at Lincoln Park last night to hear a more than hour-long lecture on the Ku Klux Klan, by a national lecturer of that organization whose name was not announced.
