Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives April 12, 1923 100 Years Ago A decrease in passenger revenue to $553,559.36 in 1922 from $672,936.12 in 1921 was experienced by the Joplin & Pittsburg Railway Co., according to testimony introduced this morning at a hearing of the public utilities commission at City Hall. The United Mine Workers are asking the commission for a reduction in passenger rates following an increase in rates which was put into effect in September 1921. Gardening is in full swing this week in Franklin and if all who are planning gardens have success there will be plenty for themselves and all of their neighbors who failed to put in a crop, according to Postmaster James Rae.
