Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago June 14, 1923 Jitneurs who operate in direct competition to the Joplin & Pittsburg Railway were given another blow at the hands of the city commission last night. Aiming the action directly at those who have been plying their trade in passenger traffic from Arma to Pittsburg and from Frontenac to the Teachers’ college, an ordinance was ordered drawn to exclude them from all streets in the city used by the J&P. A suit for $5,850 damages for the alleged pollution of a small stream of water running across his farm was filed in district court today by J. R. Weimer against the city of Girard.
