100 Years Ago Feb. 7, 1923 Girard is going through an epidemic of influenza, grippe, severe colds, and pneumonia, according to the some of the doctors. About one out of three families in the city has one or more cases of the diseases. “While Girard is not alone in the amount of sickness," one doctor said, "I am of the opinion that there is not another town of the same size in the county that has as many cases of all kinds as Girard.” Practically all of the stock of the Mack Thomas Company's store at Mulberry was damaged or destroyed by a fire discovered at about 5 o’clock yesterday morning.
