Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago April 15-17, 1923 With three arrests including a Cherokee County farmer and a suspect already jailed in Gallatin, Mo., Labette County authorities and officials of the state fire marshal's office today declared they had broken an arson ring responsible for a score of fires in southeastern Kansas since 1921. Seth Edwards, Columbus character who is in jail at Topeka on a federal charge of transporting stolen vehicles, is also implicated. Mrs. Nettie Truster was fined $50 in police court this morning under a conviction for running a bawdy house in the G. & L. rooming house at 122½ E. Fourth St. A man and woman, who were “guests” at the time the police raided the place yesterday afternoon pleaded guilty to fornication and were fined $15 each.
