Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago March 25-27, 1923 The Cockerill high school girls’ basketball team, winners of the Crawford county high school basketball tournament for girls held in Pittsburg March 9-10, closed a successful season playing a heavy schedule of 26 games. The team scored a total of 864 points while opponents got 227. The team has defeated every team played in southeast Kansas, including the Bourbon county champions, and claim the state championship.
