Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago June 21, 1923 “Ride ‘im cowboy” was the entertainment this morning by Dr. John A. Lomax, who staged his own little “roundup” of cowboy poetry and songs in the Teachers’ College assembly before a crowd which nearly filled Carney Hall auditorium. Dr. Lomax is from Texas, where the genus cowboy had its origin, or where at least it was more than any other place in the height of its glory. Incidentally, the speaker is an instructor in Texas University.
