Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago March 8, 1923 “You tell ‘em Al, we had a large time.” That was the unanimous opinion of the American Legion, even on the morning after the night before, concerning the banquet at Bussey’s annex last night, celebrating the victory of “Blues” over “Reds,” in a membership campaign over the last two weeks. As a preliminary “tuning up” the early arrivals were served with unlimited quantities of “near beer” furnished by Tom Bonini, local distributor. A new Joplin corporation, the Ice Delivery Co., for the purpose of distributing ice and headed by Oliver T. Jones, mayor of Pittsburg, was organized in Joplin yesterday with about 30 ice delivery wagons and 10 trucks.
