CORRECTION: The “From Our History” article in the Jan. 4, 2023 edition of the Morning Sun included an excerpted article from the Jan. 4, 1973 edition of the Pittsburg Headlight-Sun, and a headline referencing that article, “A Walnut man was shot to death in a train-truck collision.” On Jan. 7, 1973, the Headlight-Sun published an article correcting its earlier story: “According to the pathologist’s report Thursday a severe blow to the head caused by the impact of a pickup truck-train accident near Walnut Wednesday fatally injured Ronald E. Westhoff, 20, of Walnut. “Police officers originally thought a gunshot wound might have fatally injured Westhoff because the impact of the collision had caused a rifle in his truck to discharge. Officers believed a bullet had struck Westhoff in the head.
