100 Years Ago Jan. 26, 1923 Alexander Howat, deposed president of District 14, United Mine Workers, will return to jail in Cherokee County next week, following the issuance today of a warrant by Judge Frank Boss in District Court at Columbus ordering his return to jail to serve the remaining 52 days of his of a six-month sentence for violating the industrial court law. Howat was not present at the hearing but represented by his attorney. A Japanese garden for Lincoln Park is under consideration and if constructed will add much to the beauty of the park, as well as providing park visitors a place to quietly spend an afternoon away from the noisy common.
