COLUMBUS, Kan. — Defense wins championships, and it certainly did for the top-seeded Girard girls during their 41-31 win Friday night over fourth-seeded Burlington in the Class 3A Sub-State No. 1 championship game at Columbus High School. The Trojans held Burlington without a single point in the second quarter and the Wildcats endured nearly a two-quarter stretch without a field goal.
