Two crashes result in injuries

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. — Two crashes resulted in serious injuries in Crawford County on Monday.

The first was a single vehicle accident on US 69 at mile marker 31. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 73-year-old Gary W. Teer of Cherryvale was travelling southbound in his 2007 Dodge Dakota pulling a U-Haul trailer when he crossed the centerline, overcorrected, and veered into the ditch and overturned.

KHP noted that Mr. Teer was not wearing his seatbelt, resulting in serious injuries. Mr. Teer was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

The second crash happened on South Broadway in Pittsburg near the south Subway restaurant. According to KHP, a southbound 2022 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Mark Vangurp, 57, of Parsons was turning into the Subway parking lot ans was struck by a 2013 Honda CBR250R motorcycle driven by Briar Holding, 20, of Girard travelling north.

Vangurp and his passenger, Mathew Vangurp, 18, of Pittsburg, were wearing seatbelts and suffered no apparent injuries.

Holding and his passenger, Jordyn Oplotnik, 19, also from Girard, were both taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin to be treated for suspected minor injuries. Both were wearing helmets.
