PITTSBURG, Kan. — Hosted by Kathleen Flannery, the vice-president of university advancement, the Pittsburg State University Women in Government Lecture Series invited April Young Bennett, author of the “Ask a Suffragist” book series, host of the Religious Feminism Podcast, and a writer for the Exponent II, a blog about Mormon feminism, to speak about the lessons learned from the suffrage movement. According to Flannery, Bennett began studying the women who led the suffrage movement in the United States to learn how to fight for gender equality within the Mormon community. Bennett began by relating a personal experience when she marched against the all-male conference held by the Mormon church.
