PITTSBURG, Kan. — On Tuesday evening, residents of Pittsburg and Crawford County had an opportunity to watch one of their own compete in a civics event on national television. Aired on CBS and hosted by Mario Lopez, the “Presidential 1776 Award: The Ultimate Civics Showdown” featured 25 high school students from around the country who answered questions in an oral academic competition earning points for each correct answer. The top three finalists won a total of $250,000 in scholarship prizes.
