PITTSBURG, Kan. — Pittsburg Beautiful, an organization dedicated to improving the appearance of Pittsburg, announced 406 S. Olive Street and 704 W. 8th Street as May’s winners.
Gail McClaskey has lived at 406 S. Olive Street for 35 years and is a retired realtor. Prior to her real estate career, she sold cars and worked in the jewelry department at JCPenney. Working in her yard is her favorite hobby and said she feels pretty flowers and a nice yard helps to make the community happier and friendlier, according to Pittsburg Beautiful.
Anatolia and Jose Ruiz have lived at 704 W. 8th Street for the past eight years. Anatolia has worked for USD 250 for 20 years and is currently a teacher at Pittsburg Community Middle School. Jose is retired from Pitt Plastics.
According to Pittsburg Beautiful, the Ruiz family takes a lot of pride and enjoys working in the yard which they do two to three times per week. They said they feel it is important to maintain their property in hopes of impressing and motivating others to do the same. It’s important for the city to maintain a clean and attractive place to live, they said.
