Maddox to be tried as an adult

Crawford County Attorney, Reina Probert announced Tuesday that a motion to try 17-year-old Marcus Maddox, of Pittsburg, as an adult has been granted. Maddox is charged with first-degree murder, five counts of aggravated endangering a child and criminal use of a weapon in the fatal shooting of Adam Basauri II, 18, of Girard, on Jan. 9, in Schlanger Park.

Pittsburg Police, responding to reports of a shooting at the park just before 9 p.m. that night, reported that Basauri had been shot and had died of his wounds. Witnesses at the scene told investigating officers that there had been an altercation between Basauri and Maddox, which led to the shooting.

Maddox had left the scene, but in less than an hour, he was located in Arma by Crawford County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
