PITTSBURG, Kan. — In response to the lack of a local public shelter from winter weather conditions, the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas (CHCSEK) and Wesley House are seeking community support to create The Gathering Place, a 90-day emergency overnight shelter operating from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. at Wesley House, 411 E. 12th St., Pittsburg. Shelter organizers are inviting area churches and others to meet at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at Pittsburg's Memorial Auditorium & Convention Center to give an update on their progress and ask for support. On Nov. 1, CHCSEK undertook a leadership role at Wesley House, the long-time outreach mission established by the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburg to help meet the needs of low-income families in the area.
