PITTSBURG, Kan. — Last month, President Joe Biden announced a nationwide student loan forgiveness plan which would relieve 16 million borrowers of $10,000 of student loan debt. Borrowers who received Pell grants and earn below $125,000 per year could be relieved of up to $20,000 in federal student loan debt. According to a recent poll from the libertarian Cato Institute, 64 percent of the 2,000 people surveyed said they supported the government forgiving up to $10,000 of student loan debt for individuals who earn less than $150,000 a year.
