Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago Dec. 16-18, 1923 About 15 cases of “bottled in bond” whiskey and the chassis of a Winton “6” motor car are in the possession of county authorities, after a pursuit Sunday of two booze runners who escaped after abandoning the car in Girard when it caught fire. E. C. Tapp, county motorcycle patrolman, gave chase to the Winton at speeds up to 75 miles per hour for nine or ten miles starting south of Arma. A strike of about six weeks at the mine of the Menghini Coal Co., north of Frontenac, ended this morning when about 30 men employed at the mine went back to work.
