Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago Aug. 23, 1923 Edward Tupper, who two nights ago crushed his wife's skull with a rifle barrel, was last night taken to Lansing to serve a lifetime for murder. He was hurried out of Fort Scott, shortly after being sentenced, for fear of what might result from the feeling aroused from the brutal murder. Yesterday afternoon, Tupper waved a preliminary hearing in justice court, and was immediately arraigned in district court, pleading guilty to first degree murder.
