Excerpted stories in Crawford County newspaper archives 100 Years Ago Dec. 5, 1923 With many coming in over roads made virtually impassable by recent snow and rain, more than 100 members of the Crawford County Farm bureau, many of them accompanied by their wives, attended the annual meeting of the organization in the courthouse at Girard today. Dr. W. A. Brandenburg, president of Kansas State Teachers’ college, Pittsburg, and George W. Salisbury, county agent leader, were the chief speakers. Cooperation of merchants on Christmas decorations would greatly assure safety against fire hazards during the Yuletide, Gus Tessmer, fire chief, announced today.
