Despite the burdens of running two newspapers, F.W. Brinkerhoff found time to read searchingly many other publications to be fully informed on events, persons and political activities, as well as serve in community, county and state offices. He held the offices of president of the Kansas Press Association, chairman of the Kansas Associated Press nominating committee, and president of the Kansas State Historical Society.
