Nelson taught and coached football, basketball, and track during his career with USD 250. He served 30 years at Pittsburg High School, Community Middle School and at Lakeside Junior High during the 1970s and 1980s.

On Saturday, July 1 at Pickled Pete's in Frontenac, Dawson Hollow will be performing at 8:30 p.m. alongside a few more bands brought in by Pickled Pete’s Stacey Kennedy.

There will be a golf scramble at Four Oaks Golf Course on Sunday, July 2. The driving range opens at 7 a.m., closest to the pin and putting contests are at 8:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

After the golf scramble, lunch will be served followed by a live auction and social at Lincoln Park. Up for auction are different items from college sports departments such as University of Illinois; UNLV; Wake Forest; Iowa basketball; Grand Canyon University Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey; Alabama Football, and more. Doors open at 3 p.m.; auction will start at 3:30 p.m.

According to Mark Nelson, son of the late Lee, there are slots left for the golf scramble and those interested can contact him at [email protected].

Registration for the golf scramble is $75 per person. The concert and auction are free and open to the public.

All proceeds go to the Lee Nelson Foundation to fund the USD 250 school lunch program, provide scholarship money, and sponsor sports camps for area middle and high school students.

“We want to make this an annual event,” Nelson said.
