Pittsburg State’s men’s golf team finished in 20th place in the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Regional that ended Saturday at the Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Mich.

Coach Nick Long’s Gorillas posted a three-day total of 922, shooting rounds of 316-301-305.

Grand Valley State led from start to finish and captured team honors with a 3-over-par 867 (286-287-294). Missouri-St. Louis was second with 872, and MIAA schools Central Missouri (873) and Washburn (879) also qualified for the national tournament. The Ichabods edged Arkansas Tech and Ferris State by one stroke for the final national team berth.

C.J. Phillips of Central Missouri was the individual medalist at 5-under-par 211. He was 10-under after 36 holes (68-66) before shooting 77 in the final round.

Daniel Solavera of UMSL was second with 213 (73-71-69), one shot ahead of Cooper Scheck of Fort Hays State (74-69-71–214).

A tie at 215 involved Peyton Coahran of Winona State, Trigg Lindall of UMSL, Dennis Staykov of Harding and Manuel Cue of Grand Valley State.

Scheck and Coahran, who was the medalist at PSU’s Tommy Riggs Collegiate Invitational earlier this spring, are the regional’s two individual qualifiers to the national tournament. Coahran birdied the first hole to beat Staykov in a playoff.

Mason White led the Gorillas with a 229 after rounds of 80-75-74, good for a share of 73rd place.

Tyler Hardtarfer’s 1-under 71 on the second day was PSU’s best round of the tournament, and he tied for 77th with 78-71-81–230.

Jack Randall tied for 82nd with 80-76-76–232, and Cooper Forth tied for 94th with 78-81-78–237.

Nicholas Canales of UCO tied for eighth place at par-216, and Brooks Baldwin of Central Missouri and Chandler Cooke of UAFS tied for 10th with 217.
