GIRARD, Kan. — "In the course of a lifetime, only a handful of happenings impact our lives so profoundly that we never forget where we were when we first received word of the news. "For anyone living in or around the small town of Girard, Kansas, during the summer of 2006, the tragic and completely unexpected death of Girard High School head football coach Craig Crespino will forever be one of those events." Those two paragraphs are how Nancy Bauer begins the prologue of the book "For Coach, An Inspiring True Story of Tragedy and Triumph" she's written about her friend, former coach, teacher and mentor Craig Crespino, who came to Girard in 1985 creating a legacy that touched the lives of countless people.
