CHEROKEE, Kan. — Following months of community meetings and feedback, the USD 247 Board of Education has unanimously approved the closure of its 109-year-old elementary school building in Weir. The decision was made at a special meeting Tuesday night at Southeast High School. The meeting took place in the high school’s auditorium with roughly 10 attendees waiting to hear the next steps taken by the school board.
