PITTSBURG, Kan. — Dozens of community members gathered at Drop the H, located at 107 E. Rose Street, Wednesday evening, to celebrate the launch of the commemorative Pitt150 Pilsner.
The eatery and bar sold 60 pints in-house and 24 to-go 4-packs of the beer within a four-hour period.
“It’s been fantastic,” Drop the H Owner Mark McClain said about the crowd turnout. “It’s indicative of the support this community has given us since day one.”
Business owners, city leaders, and Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce members and representatives were among the many that showed support for the launch.
McClain credited Chamber President Blake Benson for suggesting that Drop the H create a Pitt150 beer to honor Pittsburg’s 150th birthday. Benson pointed out that the brewery was an asset to the community, and the commemorative beer makes this year even more special.
“I thought what better way to add to that celebration than to have an official 150th anniversary beer not only for the people that are here and celebrating but breweries are destinations so this helps bring in people from other communities that want to try it,” Benson said. “So, it was a win-win for everyone, and I appreciate Mark being open to the idea.”
McClain said he and his team made a double batch of the Pilsner, which equals 434 gallons. So far, they have tinned 700 cans and will continue the process depending on demand.
Drop the H has Pitt150 on tap as well as to-go 4-packs available for purchase. The limited edition beer is available in 4-packs at Pairott Head Liquor, and places like The Pitt and The dRink will sell individual cans. TOAST currently has Drop the H’s Straight A’s IPA on tap but has committed to switching to the Pilsner when the current keg is gone.
The Pitt150 Pilsner has hints of sweet fruit and currant with a subtle bitterness. For this special edition beer, the crew used Mosaic and Citra hops and Pilsen malt.
