Paint the Town Red schedule

PITTSBURG, Kan. — The students are back and so is Paint the Town Red Week! With the first home game on a Thursday this year, the annual Gorilla pride events are slightly more condensed in the week.

Here’s the schedule for PTTR events:

Wednesday, Aug. 26

  • 9 a.m. to12 p.m. – Judging begins for the business and campus decorating contests.
  • 12 p.m. – Evergy Community Favorite voting opens at pittsburgareachamber.com/pttr.
  • 12 p.m. – Business Decorating Contest winners announced live on KSN’s noon news. The Morning Sun will also announce the winners on Facebook.
  • 6 to 8 p.m. – Paint the Town Red Block Party & PSU Pep Rally on Broadway between 4th and 7th. Enjoy live music, games, and food.
  • 6:15 p.m. – “Run with Gus” Kids Fun Run sponsored by The Running Collective and the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas (5th & Broadway). Free for children.
  • 6:30 p.m. – Community Pep Rally featuring the Pride of the Plains Marching Band, PSU Dance Team, Cheer Team, PSU Athletics, and the Alumni Association.
  • 7 p.m. – Remarks from Pittsburg State University coaches and announcement of the Campus Decorating Contest winners (4th & Broadway).
  • Thursday, Aug. 27
  • 8 a.m. – Chamber Coffee hosted by the PSU Alumni & Constituent Relations Office, officially wrapping up Paint the Town Red before the first home game.
  • 11 a.m. – Community Favorite voting closes.
  • 7 p.m. – First Home Football Game: Pittsburg State vs. Ferris State University at Carnie Smith Stadium, 1705 S. Joplin Street. On-field trophy presentation for Paint the Town Red business decorating contest winners.
